I’m Panos Pomonis, the artist and producer behind Boney Floyd, an independent DIY music project that sits somewhere between nostalgia and a fascination with the future.
The music is built around spoken-word lyrics, pop melodies and a mix of synthesizers, electronics and guitars. It moves between light and dark, drawing on the sounds of earlier electronic music without trying to recreate the past.
My lyrics often take the form of thoughts without a fixed date. They might come from something that happened years ago, a personal experience, an observation or a completely fictional story. Memory and imagination tend to overlap, and I’m not always interested in making clear where one ends and the other begins.
I started making music relatively late in life, at 48, and released my first single at 51. What began as a personal creative outlet gradually developed into Boney Floyd.
The DIY approach is central to everything I do. From the first words and melodies to the final master, I write, record, arrange, produce and finish each track myself. I also create the artwork for my releases.
For me, Boney Floyd is about following ideas wherever they lead, experimenting with sounds and, above all, writing songs.
